There are a few service-providing offices at PSU that students should be aware of.  If you need help in deciding which office is the right choice, or if you are looking for other choices, please do not hesitate to ask.  Contact the DACA and make an appointment, or stop by and say hello. If you wish to find out about participating in or planning activities for the DACA, consider this an invitation to get involved.  All are welcome.

 

Asperger Syndrome and Autistic Student Alliance—is a student organization at Portland State University which promotes the arts and culture of adults and university students on the autism spectrum via guest speakers, informational displays, artistic productions, and internal group activities.

 

Campus Floor Plan IndexAre you looking to plan a route between your classes that might be a little easier?  Check out Architectural Services floor plans and see what doors might be accessible.

 

Counseling and Psychological Services—Counseling and psychological staff at the Center for Student Health & Counseling at PSU includes psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, psychiatric nurses and a psychometrist providing limited short-term services to: maintain emotional health, mitigate emotional problems, and assist students in developing and recognizing their strengths. Applications may involve prevention, intervention, outreach consultations, skill development training, and applied research for the purpose of enhancing the student’s ability to engage in a successful university experience.

 

Disability Resource Center at PSU—attempts to provide students with disabilities an equal access to education via pre-admission counseling, academic planning, and a variety of academic accommodations.

 

Office of Educational Equity Programs and Services—Students who come from backgrounds traditionally under-represented in post-secondary education can find programs and services to increase their access to college, and help improve their success in education through Educational Equity Programs and Services. Programs include both PSU sponsored and TRIO (U.S. Department of Education) programs.  Student Support Services is part of TRIO, a group of federally-funded programs in existence since the Johnson Administration of the 1960's.  Eligible students are low-income, minorities, have a physical, psychological, or learning disabilities, and/or those whose are first generation college students.

 

Research Survival OnlineAre you planning a big research project in the PSU Library and finding the possibilities a little daunting?  This research guide should provide a basic introduction to navigating your project from brainstorming ideas, to finding sources in the Library, to citing those sources in your bibliography, and much more.  If you are in need of assistive technology to use the library computer labs, or if you need specific assistance to use the library, beyond that which a general librarian would provide, go to http://www.lib.pdx.edu/services/accessibility.html for more details and to find out about research assistant services.

 

Student Health Services—"The Mission of the Portland State University Student Health Service is to promote optimal wellness throughout the University community. The Health Service enhances overall health and safety by providing primary health care to students, health education, outreach activities and emergency care to the campus at large. Through the promotion of lifelong healthy attitudes and behaviors, students are aided in achieving their academic and personal goals, thus enabling them to fully realize their responsibilities to self and community."

 

Writing CenterThe PSU Writing Center offers help with writing at any level and in any discipline.  Consultants assist writers with such things as getting thoughts on paper, revising work in progress, interpreting assignments, and working with documentation styles such as MLA and APA.  The Writing Center also houses a library of writing manuals and resources.  Call (503-725-3570) or stop by the Writing Center (Cramer Hall 188F) to make an appointment for a session. All sessions are now 25 minutes. Writers may make three appointments per week.  Writers may sign up for two consecutive appointments with the same consultant for a 50 minute session.
